FINAL HOME GAME FOR COUGAR MEN’S BASKETBALL

Mountain State University and Little General Stores, Inc. invites the community to come cheer on the MSU Cougars Men’s Basketball team at their final home game against Life University on February 26, 2011, at the Raleigh County Convention Center. Admission to the game will be free for all, courtesy of Little General Stores.

 Prior to a 4pm tip-off, MSU will recognize its senior basketball players and cheerleaders.

 At the main entrance prior to the game…

City National Bank will have their famous Money Machine! Those who sign up for a checking account at the game will be given 10 seconds in the Money Machine to grab as much cash as possible! Or, register for a free chance at their table... One lucky winner will be chosen to enter the machine for 10 seconds at half-time.

•  Chick-fil-A of the Beckley Galleria will provide limited edition “Cougarz mini-moo” cows to children ages 12 and younger while supplies last.
• MSU’s  Residence Life in conjunction with Against Tobacco will provide anti-tobacco educational games and chances at some awesome prizes.
• MSU’s Alumni Association is anxious to meet and greet area alumni as well as equip you with Cougar spirit goodies.

 At half time…

•  Winners for the five $100.00 Little General gas cards will be selected. Gas cards provided courtesy of Little General Stores.

And, as with every home basketball game, Chick-fil-A of the Beckley Galleria will give each game spectator one free coupon for Chick-fil-A chicken when the MSU Cougars score 105 points or more during the game.

2011-2012 Student Government Associations Applications now being accepted

Mountain State University Student Body,

Later this month, we will be holding elections for our Fall 2011-Spring 2012 Student Government Association (SGA). The Student Government is established to constitute a medium for expressing the opinion of the student body, strengthen cordial relations among administration, faculty, staff, students , and the community, as well as promote student activities. This is a valuable opportunity for you to familiarize yourself with democratic principles, provide services and assistance to fellow students, as well as experience personal growth.

The following positions are will be filled during the election:

Executive Officers:
President
Vice-President
Secretary
Treasurer
Parliamentarian

Representative Officers:
Sophomore Class Representative
Junior Class Representative
Senior Class Representative
Senators At Large (4)
International Student Representative (2)

To be eligible for nomination, students must have completed twenty-four (24) credit hours and currently be enrolled in at least twelve (12) credit hours. Minimum GPA requirements are 2.0 for representative officers and 2.5 for executive officers. Additionally, class representatives must have completed the following amount of credit hours:

Sophomore: 28-57
Junior: 58-89
Senior: 90+

If you wish to run for office, nomination forms are available at the Student Life House with Cristi Richardson, Director of Student Affairs. The deadline for nomination applications will be 2:00PM Friday, April, 15. Elections will be held online the following week.

Figuring Out Financial Aid--Office of Student Success

Figuring Out Financial Aid

The Office of Student Success and the Financial Aid Department will be hosting two financial aid sessions on campus to help students better understand the types of aid available and the processes to apply for it. The information sessions will be offered four times over the two days in the LRC computer lab and we hope you are able to attend one. Seating is limited and available on a first come first served basis.

MSU SIFE to hold a food drive

MSU SIFE to hold a food drive

Beckley - Mountain State University’s Students in Free Enterprise, SIFE, team will be holding a food drive March 21 through March 23 in an effort to raise food for the Food for Body and Soul Pantry. All canned, boxed, packaged, and non-expired food is welcome. The SIFE team will also accept monetary donations to be applied toward food purchases. To make a food or monetary donation, call 304.222.1622 ext 1378 and the SIFE team will make arrangements to pick up your donation. All proceeds will benefit the Food for Body and Soul Pantry. The Food for Body and Soul Pantry serves around 100 people in the Raleigh County area and is sponsored by Heart of God Ministries in Beckley.

H&R Block On-Campus

H&R Block will be on-campus Monday, March 7, 2011 from 11am to 1pm in front of the Cougar Den.

Now through the end of March, H&R Block is offering what is called "Second Looks" for free! One of the biggest missed deductions on returns is students not realizing what they can claim as education expenses and the best way to file while they are a student. Not only will they be at MSU to answer any questions but will give the students an opportunity to either make an appointment to bring their information in or even bring in their 2007 - 2010 tax returns and drop them off with the consultant.  H&R block will bring the returns to the office and make sure that the return was filed correctly, and if anything was missed, what it is and the best way to handle it. SOME STUDENTS HAVE MISSED THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS OVER THE SPAN OF THEIR TIME AS STUDENTS!!!

If you, bring in your documents, please bring the complete return and the backup documentation (w-2s, 1099s, 1098Ts, etc.) that was used to create the return.

Cougar Basketball!

MSU Cougars defeat Emmanuel College 76-69! 

Leading the way in the victory was junior Doug Wiggins with 25 points. Mantas Drungys scored an unbelievable 15 points and David Nyarsak scored 10 points and blocked 5 shots.  MSU is now 16-2!

There were a total of 79 campers that participated in the first "Cheer for the Cougars" day.  Thank you to everyone who helped to make this event a huge success!

Come out and support the Men’s Basketball Team tomorrow, Tuesday, January 25^th,  as they host WV Tech at 7pm.  All games are played at the Beckley-Raleigh County Convention Center.  Free admission with your MSU ID.

MSU wins against Talladega 91-84! 

Leading the way in the victory was Doug Wiggins, junior, with 21 points. Freshman David Nyarsak had 18 points and Cam Miller had 15 points in the win. MSU is now 15-2!
